Spiritual TV Moving To Digital Tier

Dayton Spiritual Television will be moving to a new channel location on March 31st, 2009. This new location is a result of the State of Ohio's Video Service Provider franchising law that took effect in 2008. This new law replaced what was once a local franchising process.

Dayton Spiritual Television's new channel location will be digital channel 724. It is currently seen on analog channel 12. As of the effective date, if you are a current subscriber to Time Warner Cable in the City of Dayton, Riverside or Butler Twp. and wish to continue to receive Dayton Spiritual Television, you must subscribe to the digital service package. Various other local access channels will also be moved in Dayton and surrounding communities but DATV does not control the content of those channels.

The channel relocation of Dayton Spiritual Television is not related in any way to the FCC's deadline for broadcast stations to convert their signals from analog to digital. Dayton Spiritual Television is not a broadcast service regulated by the FCC and it is only available to cable subscribers.

Dayton Spiritual Television is currently home to programming from over 70 local churches that produce programs for the channel. At the end of 2008, DATV which operates the channel, had over 500 local members that produced over 4,800 new shows for DATV and Dayton Spiritual Television combined.

Steve Ross, DATV Executive Director remarked, "While we are saddened that some cable viewers who only subscribe to basic cable will no longer be able to enjoy Dayton Spiritual Television, we are hopeful that many new viewers will be exposed to Dayton Spiritual Television's programming that inspires hope, understanding and fulfillment."

With Dayton Spiritual Television's move to Digital channel 724 it will now be seen in the entire greater Dayton area in those households that subscribe to Time Warner Cable's digital service tier. This service area extends roughly from Sidney in the North, Springfield in the East, Springboro in the South and the Indiana State line in the West.

The law, which in 2008 was championed by video service providers across the state and opposed by local governments, allows VSPs to move some local access channels to the digital service tier at their discretion. DATV, which operates Dayton Spiritual Television, is required by law to allow one of its channels to be moved to the digital service tier at the request of Time Warner Cable.

DATV, the public access channel, which is currently seen on Time Warner Cable channel 20 in the City of Dayton, Riverside and Butler Twp. will be unaffected by the move. This channel relocation only affects subscribers to Time Warner Cable. DATV anticipates availability of both Dayton Spiritual Television and DATV on AT&T's U-Verse service during the later part of 2009. Viewers of Direct TV and Dish Network do not benefit from access to DATV or Dayton Spiritual Television and there are no future prospects for that to change.
